Popular Fall 2017 Jewelry Styles
As the leaves start to turn and you swap out your sandals for ankle boots, it’s time to update your jewelry collection. Take your inspiration from the latest fall and winter 2017/2018 runway shows. Go bold with a neo hand bracelet or sculptural armlet, or choose a classic, vintage look with chandelier earrings with plenty of crystals.
Neo hand bracelets
The neo hand bracelet is a subtle accent that made a dramatic impact on the runways at the 2017/2018 fall and winter fashion shows, and it’s proof that everything old will be new again someday. At the Gucci fall/winter show, the hand bracelet’s look was decidedly steampunk. It featured a brushed bronze chain bracelet that joined at the center of the wrist and traversed the hand to meet at the connected rings.
Louis Vuitton had a simpler take on the hand bracelet, with a dark gray rope that looped the wrist several times before traveling down to and around the thumb. Despite its rustic vibe, this design still maintained a look of feminine sophistication. And at the Lanvin show, the connected ring dramatically featured a plumed tassel, with the delicate, attached chain bracelet looking like little more than an afterthought.
Dramatic arm bracelets
The latest jewelry looks for fall 2017 includes new takes on arm bracelets and cuffs. Earlier in the year, jewelry designers embraced delicate, silver and gold bands gracefully winding down the arm in a serpentine fashion. Of course, there were some exceptions, such as the Signature Monogram Cuff by Saint Laurent, which was a chunkier take on this trend.
At least one designer is predicting a longer lifespan for this look. The recent show by Proenza Schouler included the designer’s Large Plexy Cuff—a bold, sculptural take on armlets. It loops around the forearm with chunky, black rings of plexiglass.
Proenza Schouler’s sculptural arm bracelet would pair nicely with a new look in earrings by Prabal Gurung. These mini sculptures are reminiscent of large seashells in black and white.
If you prefer the party girl look over the art school student look, you’ll love the new chandelier earrings by Isabel Marant, Celine, and Miu Miu. Designers seem to be gradually nudging away from the asymmetrical look, at least with the latest crop of runway shows, and toward a vintage-inspired, covered-in-crystals look. These gleaming, oversized beauties would not look out of place at a New Year’s Eve party.
Like the elegant look of crystal, but prefer the smaller version? Check out the new look by Tory Burch. This designer re-imagined the classic cluster earrings, adding plenty of delicate crystal embellishments. The end result is a timeless piece that you’ll want to wear for years to come.
Not your grandma’s pearls
Some designers have clearly been rummaging through their grandmas’ closets, and re-imagining a new spin on the classic pearl necklace. The neo pearl look by Gucci supersizes vintage pearls and loops them in extravagant, multiple strand necklaces. Other designers have been adorning wrists with oversized pearls, and adding them to huge, statement earrings.
